I don’t call your name out loud,
but it echoes through everything.
The air knows.
The walls remember.
Even the silence carries your rhythm
like it doesn’t want to forget how to breathe you.
I look at nothing
and see you everywhere.
I touch the night
and wish it were your skin.
No goodbye ever really ended.
No distance ever really took you from me.
You still exist —
between my blinks,
beneath my ribs,
in the space my hands close around
when they reach for you and find only heat.
I miss you.
Like fire misses the spark
after the match goes dark.
